Secretarys Report 2008/09

by Dave Lang

Dave Lang, MBCC Secretary 2008/09 After some eight seasons, it was pleasing to see our Club enter its first “A” grade side into the Manly-Warringah Cricket Association in 2008/09 after Doug Alley & his side took out the B1 premiership in 2007/08. There is notably a strong line-up of talent here which we’ve seen grow in strength and a great effort in reaching the semi-finals.

Commiserations in going down to Long Reef in the semi-final but a commendable performance during the season nevertheless.

With the loss of a number of key players at the start of the season, the B2 semi-finals proved elusive. There were some notable performances however and memorable games which I’m sure many of you will hear/relive over a few beers at tonight’s presentation.

Congratulations to :
Lloyd Walker for taking out this year’s Cricketer of the Year.
Roger Moore on being voted “Clubperson of the Year” for 2008-09.
Other award recipients too numerous to mention here (see further).

Thanks & Appreciation to :
Roger Moore, for maintaining our “manlybreakers.org” web site during the season. Thanks Rog.
Our Gold Sponsor, The Brookvale Hotel was once again behind us this season. Without the support of Michael Paterson and the Kelly Group our club would not have functioned as successfully as it had.
Our Silver sponsor, Ceasefire Australia came on board this season and whilst business commitments prevented us from seeing Dwayne Thomson on the field we appreciate his support to the Club.
Wayne Gormley who arranged our playing & casual gear and also ensuring the Manly Breakers players and supporters are yet again professionally attired both on and off the field.
Family & friends (including associate members) who were able to come along to our matches during the season to support the players of the A3’s and B2’s.
And finally, our members – the players.

Look forward to seeing you in the 2009/10 for another summer of cricket.
Yours in cricket ……………………
David Lang
Secretary

Curious interruption to play: When South African Daryl Cullinan hit a six for Border against Boland in February 1995, the ball landed in a frying pan containing hot calamari. Although officials managed to remove the ball from the pan, play was delayed for ten minutes until the ball had cooled down sufficiently for the grease to be removed.
