Secretarys Report 2006/07

| by Dave Lang |
After six seasons and ten teams entered in the Manly-Warringah Cricket Association, we had only reached one preliminary semi-final. This year, in our seventh season and twelve teams entered since the club’s inception, a BIG congratulation goes to the B3 and C2 teams on excellent performances and turning things around during the season and making it to their respective grand finals for the first time.
Congratulations to the C2’s on becoming our Club’s first PREMIERS and in addition, being undefeated throughout the season. Commiserations to the B3’s in going down to Cromer in the final however played some outstanding cricket in a very competitive competition.
On behalf of our Club I welcome the new players who joined our ranks and trust you had an enjoyable time with us in what has been an exceptional season, and look forward to seeing you back in 2007-08.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Several social activities were arranged for the enjoyment of our members and their guests this year. Two such activities I can report on were our Annual Lawn Bowls Day and our Trivia Night.
Our Annual Lawn Bowls Day (Rock ‘n’ Bowl) was again held at Diggers on the Park (Manly Bowling Club) in February. For those of us who were able to attend certainly had a great afternoon entertainment of lawn bowls accompanied by rock and roll music played over the public address system at the club.
Players were grouped into teams of varying colours. Winners of the day were Fish & Lauren who received a “Winners Cup” trophy – albeit 6-inches in height. Other trophy winners on the day who received the Consolation Final “Horse’s Arse” trophy were Wayne Gormley & Matt Gale.
We had thirty-seven starters for our 3nd annual Trivia Night which was hosted by our very own Fish, Boof & 007! The guys did a great job in entertaining us with a multitude of questions, complimented by a range of giveaways and a raffle prizes.
Numerous teams contested for a chance to win cash, bottles of wine, shirts, caps & footballs & other great prizes. Eventual winners on the night were Rob Minnett’s Collaroy Plateau C.C. team comprising of some players & their guests.
Special thanks to the Brookvale Hotel, Wayne Gormley and Matt Fisher for donating prizes for the night.
Congratulations and best wishes to :
Bill Serong for taking out this year’s Cricketer of the Year.
Matt Fisher on being voted “Clubperson of the Year” for 2006-07.
Other award recipients too numerous to mention here (see further).
Stuart & Deb Hill on the birth of their son, Lachlan.
Thanks and Appreciation to...
· Mark Hill for his dedication and work around the club this season arranging our club merchandise and ensuring the Manly Breakers players and supporters are yet again professionally attired both on and off the field. Thanks Mark.
Our Gold Sponsor, The Brookvale Hotel was once again behind us this season. Without the support of Michael Paterson and the Kelly Group our club would not have functioned as successfully as it had.
Roger Moore, our webmaster guru, maintained our “manlybreakers.org” web site during the season. Thanks Rog.
Wayne Gormley who arranged the Club’s first official stubby holders. Your assistance is much appreciated by your Committee and peers.
Family & friends (including associate members) who were able to come along to our matches during the season to support the players of the B3’s and C2’s.
And finally, our members – the players.
Look forward to seeing you this coming August for another season.
Yours in cricket......
