What a season 2006/07 turned out to be! At the start we were facing a very real possibility of having three teams participating in the competition! We secured our major sponsor for a 6th straight year and we were all ready to get into a big summer of cricket! If you had told me at the beginning of the season that we would have both teams make the Grand Final, one team go undefeated and have a premiership in our pocket, I would have replied “yeah that would be great, but so would be a couple of hundred grand in my bank account!”

This year held a lot of significance for the club, for some of our players and for me personally.

I was honored to be elected as the club’s president it meant a lot to me to officially lead the club I started along with 14 other guys just 7 years ago! The last 7 years have been simply awesome and have some bumps (some decent ones), but plenty of highlights for me and the members of our club to hold for a lifetime.

I have watched many men within our club develop as players, leader’s and people. We started this club with the foundation that we were all friends, who would support each other, encourage each other, commit, and back up each other all the way, no matter what the circumstance. As our club grows it brings new members, new dimensions, and new tones into the Manly Breakers family. It is vitally important that we never lose focus on how we, this magnificent club, came into being.

It is up to the senior members of the club to promote, and develop our culture, our history, and our foundations as we grow. I encourage those founding members to lead from the front so that those who follow will appreciate this club and do the same to ensure that the very reason we came to be is why we have a great future that will continue beyond us. A history-making season is what we have all been a part of, contributed to in each of our capacities and will celebrate for many, many, many years to come.

To the B3’s congratulations on your season and from what you have each experienced this season will make you even more formidable as a team and as individual players.

To the C2’s, well done on the perfect season! As I said after our Grand Final win, we are the club’s first Premiers and we have added to pages of the Breakers history just as that of the first 15 who were the Manly Breakers back in 2000.

I personally could not have asked for a better way to end my full-time playing days. The only thing that I am waiting for now is the couple of hundred grand in the bank!

Well done all you Manly Breakers! I wish you and your families well in the off season and the very best for the future.
