A good win with a feast of runs on offer. Well they say the best "seat" in the house is out in the middle and they're right....!
If someone ever ask's me what was my best stint at umpiring, I gotta say it definitely would've been in a C2 match against Harbord Bowling Club back in '07 when I saw this guy who, before that day, his highest score for our Club was only 19 over some 2 seasons, scored his maiden century for his Club - a well deserved 104.
Sure, Harbord might've been a couple of players short and yeah, some of the bowling may not have been that tight....but for every 3-4 bad balls, they usually bowled 2-3 good ones the batsman had to keep out or run this risk of hearing one of his team mates say, "Bad luck mate, you were looking good."
Stu punished the bad balls yet played with real discipline to keep out the ones on the stumps. One of those games where everything just "clicked", eh Stu. Well done!
Stuart (the "new kid on the block") was also well supported by our resident batting stalwart, Billy "Runmeister" Serong who scored his second century this season. Coming in with the score at 5-96, the pair put on a valuable 6th wicket 216-run partnership and pushed the match well out of Harbord's reach.
A great knock by Gommerz who batting at no.4, chipped in with his personal best of 35.
Bowling honours in the 1st innings went to Thommo who took 5-25 off one ball shy of 12 overs. Hilly picked up two wickets in his spell of 2-22 from 9.
Man of the Match Stu picked up a wicket in his short spell of 1-5 off 2.
Harbord's 2nd innings was somwhat better than their earlier batting effort but with their score at 4-81, the match was abandoned in the last hour or so of play remaining due to rain.
Anyway, just thought I'd share these thoughts with you!
