B3 Captains Report 2005/06

| by Rob Lavery (captain) |
It was an experience like no other. Living and breathing the B3s season 2005/2006 was challenging, engaging, frustrating, temeritous, mildly tangy and most of all, enjoyable. Like a barrel of fortune cookies, the season of 2005/2006 was a cylinder of staves, bound with hoops and filled with oriental desserts that foreshadow the patron’s future.
Doug Alley: A fine season from Vasper, he once again showed his all-round talents. There are many bowlers in the greater Manly Warringah area still suffering from night tremors when they recall the savage punishment Doug dished out in lavish portions.
Dylan Calder: A man of few words, Dylan was an excellent acquisition for the Breakers Boys in 2005/2006. His verve in the field was infectious and along with Doug Alley provided many spectacular moments.
Roger Christie: Only a pair of appearances for Doughnut Lad this time round but when present he evoked all manner of emotions in those spectating his play.
Dave Elliott: Whilst it was a quieter season for “id”, his presence was certainly felt when he took the field in the tri-colours. Along with Roger C, we all hope to see more of Dave next season.
Matt Fisher: The ever dependable Fish Lips provided flair, glare and mustard coloured underwear in a season that had it all. Fish did what he does best, along with a number of things that he does very well, to provide great assistance to all in 05/06.
Rob Herne: The immovable object, Cutters frequently resembled a limpet clinging doggedly (or limpetedly) to the bows of the Breakers top order. He also proved to be never short of a limerick and was the author of many curious rounds of “Guess That Breaker”.
James Johnston: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rob Lavery (by M. Fisher): Donning his white helmet, and walking out with his bat that more resembles a sticky tape dispenser Rob casts a formidable figure in the strange and unusual world of park cricket. With the "sticky-tape dispenser" for a bat Rob is able to play a large array of strokes, that diverts attention from his Wookie like frame and lego like features.
Al Lemarchand: The B3s secret weapon, “Flopsy” was a thorn in the side of many an opponent. With the bat he dismantled Harbord’s “Weirdo Beardo” (not to mention the cream of the C1s attack) and proved again to be a force with the ball at altitude.
Jeff Monin: One of the senior statesmen, Jeff provided handy contributions with bat, ball and gloves. Jeff gave his all and will no doubt replenish his all in the off-season so he will be able to give more all, next year.
Roger Moore: The return of 007 was keenly anticipated and he didn’t disappoint. Showing the tenacity for which he is legendary, he flayed the opposition with his broad blade and gave somewhere in the vicinity of 123.82% in the field.
Ian North: Filthy goes from strength to strength in all aspects of his game. This year he added captaincy to his already heavily strung bow and proved as unflappable in that domain as in any other he confronts.
Richard Smith: When he opens his mouth, all present fall silent before his awe-inspiring oratories. Not content to rest on his batting abilities, Richo turned his hand to slip fielding this year with devastating results. A man for the moment.
Chris Sweet: There is little that can be said of the Fopsicle that has not been said in previous annual reports. Dependable with the ball, explosive with the bat, another year of Fop mastery in 2005/2006.
Oliver (“Oli”) Thomas: It is hard to recall a colleague so predisposed to temerity as Oli. He displayed such incredible quantities of temerity that he provoked isolated cases of over-temerity in those immediately around him. Truly a season rife with temerity.
Lloyd Walker: Mittens was an excellent find for the Manly Lads during the season and repaid the faith in all aspects of the game. Playing with the skill of a young Dion Morrell, he was indeed inspiring. Dion Morrell, what an obscure reference.
