Presidents Report 2003/04

by Dave Lang

Dave Lang, MBCC President 2004/05 During the 2003-04 season our two teams, B3’s & C1’s although unsuccessful in their quest for premiership honours, competed in true Manly Breakers spirit. The B3’s just missed out on the finals and the C1’s strung together a couple of wins & some other close matches towards the latter part of the season. Both teams were fairly evenly placed on their respective competition ladders by the end of the official season which also proved evident in the Club’s President’s Cup match played on 20th March in which the game was not won until the final ball!

Unfortunately we had more part time players on our books this year than in previous seasons which at times saw both teams play short. This had an adverse effect on both teams, particularly the C1’s who did not register their first win until midway through the season. However, captains Mark Hill (B3’s) and Matt Fisher (C1’s) did a great job organising their teams and working together to get what players were available onto the field each week.

To the new players that were added to our ranks, we welcome you & hope you and existing players had an enjoyable season and look forward to seeing you all back for the 2004-05 season.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Our Annual Lawn Bowls Day held on 14th December down at the Manly Bowling Club yet again proved to be a big success with players & partners enjoying a great afternoon of bowls, beer & burgers.
Our Annual Golf Day was held up at Royal Avalon on 18th Jan. played under Ambrose with Tony Ball & Chris Sweet winners by just 1 stroke. This was followed by a BBQ lunch at Mona Vale beach. Special thanks goes to Chris Sweet in providing those tasty chicken kebabs & savoury snags. Thanks Chris.

Well, that's about it from me here other than:

Congratulations to...
This year’s trophy winners on their achievements
Colin & Alyssa Henderson on their marriage early this May
Mark Hill & Sonya on their recent engagement

Thanks & Appreciation:
Mark Hill for his dedication and work around the club this season arranging our club merchandise and ensuring the Manly Breakers players and supporters are yet again professionally attired both on and off the field. Thanks Mark.
Roger Moore, who once again proved invaluable, doing a great job of publicity through our “manlybreakers.org” web site during the season. Thanks Rog.
Our Gold Sponsor, The Brookvale Hotel were once again well behind us. Without the support of Michael Paterson and the Kelly Group our club would not have functioned as successfully as it had.
Tony Brown, as our Social Director organising our annual Lawn Bowls and Golf Days and for his assistance and input in the running of our Club. Big Fella, you are truly the greatest good kid of them all.
Those players & supporters who helped out the Club with our chocolate drives. Your assistance is much appreciated by your Committee and peers.
Family & friends (including associate members) who were able to come along to our matches during the season to support the players of the B3’s and C1’s.
And finally, our members – the players. “You’re all good kids.”

Wishing everyone all the best for 2004.

Yours in cricket......

Playing till too dark to see,
As their fathers watched them once,
As my father once watched me;
While the bat and beetle flew
On the warm air webbed with dew
