B3 Round 4 v Colloroy, Nolans 1
Result: First innings win
Players Player: Phil Sweet
Toss: MBCC

This round schedule was to be a ig match for both teams, with Collaroy not wanting to concede another heavy defeat and the Breakers searching for 10 points and the claim of top dog in the Brookvale Hotel (Sponsor of both clubs).

Manly Breakers Captain, Mark Hill won the Toss and armed with the knowledge that Collaroy had suffered 2 Outright Losses, he sent Collaroy to the crease.

Nathan Peterson opened the bowling for the Breakers and with just the second ball of the day he claimed the first wicket of Collaroy openner Cameron (1/1). Manly Breakers worked hard in the session to put pressure on Collaroy and Nathan Peterson who has found form with bat and ball all season, picked up his second wick and Collaroys bringing them to 2/13 off 5 overs.

The Breakers bowling was threatening but so too were the storm clouds above Nolans Reserve, with rain looking certain after just 30 minutes of play. The first change in bowling saw Phil Sweet take the ball, delivering two maiden overs before taking his first wicket with the last ball of his third over. Phil bowled a great change of pace to split the timber of Farrell (14) who had manage to put a handy partnership (49) on with Brendan Ireland, Collaroy now 3/62. The opposition managed just two more runs before Phil Sweet claimed another wicket, this time with the first ball of his next over, bowling Ireland (37) leaving them reeling at 4/64 and the Breakers well on track for their big victory. Phil was denied a hatrick and astonishingly this his first opportunity to claim the feat..

From here Collaroy looked tenative with their Captain Luke Ireland and Craig Rolfe at the crease, the Breakers were hoping the rain could stay clear for another 30 minutes, but this was not to be, at 2.50pm the heavens opened up and fields around Warringah were vacated. Both teams waited offerring conflicting prayers to the Rain Gods until at 3.30pm play was abandoned for the day.

Day 2 in absolute contrast to the first, offered sunshine and comfortable playing conditions, the Breakers keen to get stuck into their opposition and they in need of something special!

Hill and Sweet continued the bowling with Hill struggling to find any rhythm for a second consecutive spell, while Phill Sweet picking up where he left off. David Hore arrived and was given his chance with the ball picking up 2/16. Phil Sweet claimed a further two wickets with another chance being downed by Hill at short mid-wicket in his search for a 5 wicket haul (4/41). Collaroy did mount a fight back to secure 139 runs with Rolfe offering 2nd day resistance scoring 31.

Manly Breakers now had an awkward score to attack and understood the importance of the task ahead. Breakers forged openers Phil Sweet & Rob Herne were together for 4 overs before the wicket of Herne fell to a superb catch at mid-off (1/6) bringing giving Collaroy a sense of hope in their search for points. Justin Barbaroux joined Phil at the crease and the two worked hard together making the most of Collaroy's attack. Phil and Justin built a solid partnership adding 43 runs to the Breakers score when Phil Sweet found the fielder, being dismissed caught for 23, (2/49). Justin Barbaroux found himself caught for 38 runs as he pushed the Breakers score up to 3/73 with David Hore.

David Hore made a quick time 15, miss timing a shot to be caught at mid-wicket with the breakers now 4/87 needing 53 runs for victory. Mark Mullineaux who has been in excellent form with his Glove work and the bat was joined at the crease by the Breakers Captain Mark Hill with the task well communicated to bring the points home and not give Collaroy a sniff of any twist of fortune.

Mullineaux and Hill steadied the innings resisting one of the more intriguing bowling attacks experienced, to build a partnership of 44. The partnership ended when Mullineaux followd the dismissal trend and was caught for 25. Hill scored a conservative 13 when he was judged to be LBW with just 6 runs needed for victory. Ian North who faced each ball cautiously and to the jibes within the opposition a result of some friendships he shares scored an unbeaten 3, with his partners Rob Spit (3) and Phil Dunn (6) both falling victim to the Collaroy bowlers, with Spit the only player bowled by Collaroys leather.

The Breakers claimed victory with 8/147 picking up 7 points and the pride of Brookvale Hotel for this round.
