3rd Division - Round 1
April 27th
Manly Breakers 8-136 beat M.E.Tinnuks 134
ME Tinnuks (aka Skanky Tigers) batted first in the first round of Winter 2002 but their 134 all out was not quite enough to stop Manly Breakers from passing them. Being one short would not have helped their cause and should be a lesson to all teams who find themselves in that situation.
The Tinnuks innings had handy contributions of 37 from opener Puru and 30 from Sam. 22 Sundries also helped. Chris Sweet's 3-25 kept Tinnuks on the back foot.
If The Breakers had any thoughts of an easy innings, then they were wrong. The Tinnuks threw everything at the Breakers with the Manly team winning by one wicket. Phil Sweet got the innings going with 39 and Mark Hill (29) and Richard Grady (18) keeping things on track.
The loss of some wickets at vital times left Manly in the precarious situation of being 8 down with runs still to get. Mark Mullineaux responded to the challenge and calmly steered his side to a one wicket victory. Puru's 3-6 and Vetti's 3-10 were the best bowling figures in a quality game enjoyed by all.
