Presidents Cup

This season saw the President's Cup contested between the B3 and B4 teams up at our "home" ground, Balgowlah Oval. With both these teams placed fairly evenly at the final standings of the Summer competition, B3's finishing on 49 points and the B4's with 42 points, this match had been much talked about everyone associated in & around the club!
Our club was fortunate to secure filming rights to have this match televised which I believe is now available on DVD!
The tossing of the coin and the pitch report by "Jimmy" Johnston with the Manly Breakers commentary team prior to the start of play certainly confirmed that that this match was to have everything and more. The landing of the coin was to see Mark "Hilly" Hill win the toss and elect to bat on a pitch that would perhaps later prove his decision to be a shrewd move. Tight bowling, runs aplenty, tight bowling, runs aplenty with wickets falling consistently throughout the B4 innings was an up & down affair with extras top scoring with 25!
Great spells of bowling by Ryan Reckerman, Dave Hore, James Foye & Nathan Petersen & Skiddy saw them hold the B4's to a score of around (after adjustments!) a total of 117.
Where most of the B4 wickets fell at the end of their innings, the B3' innings saw most of theirs fall early. So much so that the B4's had the B3's reeling at 6-28 in only the 9th over. With wickets to messrs Monin, Lang, Big Al le Marchand, Matt Beckett and Roger Moore who had the best figures of the day with 3-11 off 4 overs.
The B3's never really recovered although a brave fightback by Nathan Peterson & Terry Nicholson tried to snatch a win if not a draw against the threat of rain late in the afternoon.
The B4's winners by 45 runs. Well done Hilly.
