Captains Report 2001/02

What a fantastic season, despite the fact we missed out on the finals. To go through a season and amass 70 something points and not make the finals is both a disappointment and a credit to the Manly Breakers. In most seasons over 70 points would normally have meant a minor premiership, not so in 2001/02, but life goes on.
Although the start of the season was not as productive in terms of wins as we would have liked, the Breakers still held their own. The seasons started with an outright in round 1 over Dee Why RSL. First innings losses to Long Reef and Forest District in rounds 2 & 3 didn't help the Breakers' cause, but the team managed to fight back in round 4 with a whopping outright win against former glory side Belrose RLC. In the next match against Harbord Bowling Club, the Breakers managed to get first innings points, but couldn't hang on for the outright victory, which Harbord claimed. Round 6 (against Balgowlah Golf) and round 7 (Manly Leagues) were other disappointments, and despite a brave fight the Breakers went down in the first innings of both matches.
This signified the start of the Breakers six match winning streak. The first four matches of The Steak were one dayers against Seaforth, Narraweena, Dee Why RSL and Long Reef; all were well fought, but rather comfortable wins to the Breakers. Our next two wins were over Forest Districts and the ever controversial Belrose RLCC. Both matches were nearly outright victories to the Beeakers, but we were unable to complete the task at hand. The last round was an unfortunate end to the season, with a loss to Harbord Bowling Club, but the season was over for us before the game started.
Overall the teams' performance was fantastic, and unfrotunately we were unable to convert some opportunities that maybe we should have taken, and that cost us our deserved spot in the semi finals. But, there is no use dwelling on these, and instead we look forward to the next season, in what should be a highly successful season for the Manly Breakers.
NB: Matt wrote profiles for all the players of the mighty 2001/02 side...
unfortunately as we have lost the original documents, these are being added to the player profiles as time (and the rapidly increasing age of the web master, who is patiently re-typing them) allows...
They are damn funny... Unit points would have been awarded. C'MON!!!
