Presidents Report 2000/01

From that inaugural match against Dee Why RSL way back in that first week of October (who would ever forget it...), when we scored a mere 4 runs shy of 300 and lost by only 2, there seemed to be a quiet air of confidence in how our season would pan out. However, our season did turn out to be somewhat frustrating at times, what with two forfeits and a washout - one would think that's about six weeks of cricket denied.
However, to turn around those setbacks and use that time for practice, either "Six-a-side" match or just some centre wicket practice shows the enthusiasm, which was always encouraged in our club.
To all the award winners, well done and thank you for your efforts, which see you worthy receipants of your awards. (We'll exclude those novelty awards here...) We definately fared well in the bolwing department this year, with a few bowlers in contention. Commiserations to those who missed out - however, your efforts throughout the season did not go unnoticed.
I'm sure for those of us that played we did enjoy our season, and perhaps if not, then use it as a learning experience to do better in the 2001/02 season. Which, I might add, will soon be upon us...!
I would now like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow committee who donated their services in the administrative running of the club:

Our inaugurial Club Captain and committee-man Mark Hill's services and dedication to our club on and off the field certainlly deserve special mention...
Was instrumental in securing sponsorship that allowed us to alleviate the high start up costs associated when establishing a sporting club, thereby keeping player costs down, allowing us to enjoy our cricket and promote the game
Also arranged our club's sportswear for both on and off the field trophies
Did a fine job as club captain
Finally, to each and every player and supporter, thank you for being a part of what is the Manly Breakers Cricket Club

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out where the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred with dust and sweat and blood... who, at worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who never knew neither victory nor defeat.
