Favourite Band & Song: Lionel Ritchie/ Hello
Favourite Movie: Snatch Favourite TV Show: Favourite Book: Favourite Food: Anything with Batter Favourite Drink: Beer Heroes: Tony Ball and Capt Hill [2003/04] Another Breakers' Matt; however there is only One Matty Phillips. Matty has become a welcome regular in the last couple of seasons, and his medium paced cutters have provided a wicket taking edge to the Breakers attack. Matty has always performed when called upon; who could forget his match winning spell in B4's first win in 2002/03 when he not only contained two rampaging batsmen, he also took two vital wickets, all in total darkness. Which says a lot about how accurately he bowls, even when he couldn't see the stumps - at either end. Like his idol, Dean "Legend" Jones (a kiwi/anzac hates to write that nickname...), Matty's batting has matured recently, and his new found confidence has seen the runs start to flow; he was dismised only one last season. Matt, when set at the crease, for some reason seems to get the best balls bowled to him though - dont worry Matt, Glenn McGrath gets the same treatment and your technique is better. For enthusiasm of playing cricket Matt is near the top of the club tree, with encouragement, and a never ending list of nicknames, for his team mates. Onya, Matt! Matty has been around the club for a while, but managed to play a lot more games this season. Matt improved out of sight through the season, making the step up as a formidable opening batsman, and a snappy close in fielder. Matt’s bowling continued to be consistent, but probably didn’t yield as many wickets as he may have liked. A worthy winner of the most improved award and a close runner up in the moustache growing comp, with his half Elvis, half Dennis Lillee impression. A great guy to lift spirits on the field with bizarre chants and constant innuendo. (Fish, 2003/04) Ever the improviser, “Digger” unleashed the beast this season with a couple of personal best scores. Never one to bow to convention, runs and wickets flowed freely again for young Matthew despite, or possibly because of, his unorthodox methods. He also broke a record, and some teeth, by becoming the first Breaker to be injured by ‘friendly fire’ before entering the field of play. An official enquiry is pending. (Fish/Laves, 2004/05) |
