One of the Breakers' founding fathers and loyal servant, "Hilly", now trying for the nickname of Funky, has been there from then start.

A tall, Glenn McGrath-ish fast-medium opening bowler (send me the money for writing this if you would), Hilly has claimed a few scalps in training over the years, a few in games, and last season had mightly bowling figures to lead his team on his return to B4 Captain. Like his idol, Steve Waugh, he lurks in the gully from preference, and bats number six (close enough). A 50 still elludes him, and he has managed some rather unlucky dismissals over the years, but he will get there. Probably emulating Tugga's 32 test tons may be beyond him, still you never know. He does share with Waugh the conviction he is never out when batting. Most of us do, of course, but as Matty Fisher wrote a couple of seasons back, swearing there was a bump ball - as you do - when the catch came off the middle of the bat and stayed half a metre off the ground, is stretching it a bit... :-)

After a little spell up the coast against ex test player Dutchie Holland, Hilly returned to Sydney in 2001/02 in time to belt some runs, take some wickets, and get the elder Waugh twin's autograph ahead of a few thousand kids at the SCG. Must be that security training....

Captain since the start, Hilly's proudest moment may have been when the B4s won last season's annual intra-club. The shout as he took the last wicket (in the rain) was supposedly heard by Doug Alley in Queensland: or maybe it was Zeus tell him to get under cover before he drowned?

Hilly's dedication to cricket is shown by the team's largest collection of gear - who can forget the day he forgot his training clothes and rather than miss practice, went out to Rebel for a whole new outfit. Yes, Go Puma (leave the scribe's cheque in the mail!)

I had my most successful season with the ball picking up 46 wickets at an average of 12.98! Captained the team to the Minor Premiership and Premiership of 2006/07 (Hilly, 2006/07)

Finished his career at the Breakers in style with his usual wicket taking ability and experience. He was greatly missed at the end. (J.B., 2007/08)
