Favourite Band & Song: Murder on the Dance Floor
Favourite Movie: The Goonies Favourite TV Show: Passions Favourite Book: Mark Waugh Autobiography Favourite Food: Mum's Roast Favourite Drink: Beer Heroes: Mal Meninga, Wally Lewis, Jason Smith, Fish and James [2001/02] A newcomer to the Breakers ranks, Droppa brought an air of youthfulness and enthusiasm to the side, with his excellent field skills, flamboyant batting technique and his "mediocre" bowling. Doug certainly made an impact in the games he played and was always keen to do well. Doug's highlight of 2001/02 would have to be opening the batting against Long Reef at Moana Vale, where he contributed a fantastic four ball duck, ha ha ha. No, only joking - his 38 against Forest would have to be the highlight of the season, and it was certainly good to watch. PS Look out Col, Doug seems to think he can handle the new ball too! (Fish 2002) [2002/03] In his second season, Doug had a slow start but did "OK" after that. He scored his first ever half-tons (both match winners), 3rd best bowling in MBCC history, and some fine wicket keeping when he took on the gloves. Doug was B4s top all rounder by Christmas. It seemed too good to be true, and in a way it was, when he accepted a job up north and moved to Queensland to, presumably, start a branch of MBCC. No record of our oppenents being too unhappy about it. We wish him well, and (fingers crossed) hope he'll be seen in MBCC colours again at some stage. (Rog 2003) [2005/06] One thing we didn't know about Doug - Went to the same school as Adam Gilchrist! Here’s a man who likes a celebratory embrace. When watching Doug play it almost seems mathematically possible that he is giving 110%. He enjoyed an epiphany of sorts with the ball in hand and will no doubt add new facets to his game in the coming seasons. (Fish/Laves, 2006/07) Aaaargh Douglas, the Vasman, the Captain, and a player that models his game on test "bowlers" such as Ryan Sidebottom, Andre Nel, and batsmen like the greatest Gingas of them all, Ian Bell and Paul Collingwood. Doug's love affair with the English goes a long way back, even to the time he first entered a cafe and ordered a fruit salad, yoghurt with mueslie and a decaf soy mocha to go.... yes it is true, this is the breakfast that our elected captain has on a regular basis, maybe you should ask him the cup size of his bra? However Doug's captaincy has not been modelled on the English, for a start we won something under his guidance, if you were unaware the B1's won the 2007/08 premiership and a very important part of that was Doug's captaincy. Who could forget his speeches on during the finals series, as well his inspriational fielding, and of course the most important facet of his game the bowling, which really came to a forefront in the final rounds and into the final series? Doug bagged some of the most important wickets in these matches, and given the number of players player awards and votes in the last rounds and final series, it is testament to Doug's imporvement as a bowler, of course being captain enables one to bowl as much as they like, but credit where it is due, well done. Thanks Doug.... hopefully you'll go around again with a (c) after your name next year, I don't think there would be any objections to that. (Fish?,2007/08) |
